TCEA 2016 Wrap Up

TCEA 2016 Wrap Up

Well it’s been nearly a week since Eventzee staff members Cody and Dylan returned from Austin, TX while attending the TCEA 2016 Convention and Expo, and we’ve been hitting the ground running. We had a great turnout for our photo scavenger hunts and everyone seemed to have a ton of fun.

From chasing down people in unique hats, to spelling out TCEA with their bodies, we kept the players moving and adventuring through the conference halls. Thank you to all who played and thank you to all the vendors who participated as stops in our scavenger hunt.

From a business perspective, the event was a home run. We met so many passionate educators who had all sorts of ideas on how to use Eventzee in the classroom. Like we told many of you, many times, at the end of the day the Eventzee staff are not educators, so the success of our product has to come from those who work with students every day. From language teachers using scavenger hunts for live action vocabulary training to chemistry classes using it to train on lab equipment, Eventzee EDU’s customizability makes it perfect for any situation.

A HUGE thank you is in order for everyone involved in making TCEA a success, but especially to Michelle Phillips and Carl Hooker.

Michelle, the Instructional Technology Specialist for Prosper ISD, was the first person to suggest we use Eventzee as an educational tool and she has been working with us since then to develop a safe, fun product that’s easy to use within the classroom. Michelle and Prosper ISD have played an active role in testing Eventzee EDU and we’re excited to continue to move forward with them. Congrats to Michelle for also being nominated as ITS of The Year at TCEA 16’s Educator Awards! Follow Michelle on her website EdTech In Action– you won’t regret it!

Carl is the Director of Innovation & Digital Learning in the Eanes Independent School District and the founder of the learning festival ipadpalooza. Carl was actually one of the first clients Eventzee connected with and he has been a huge proponent for our product at his ipadpalooza events worldwide. An educator himself, Carl is constantly pushing for a strong educational shift with technology integration. You should also follow his blog “HookeED on Innovation” to learn more!

Once again, we had a great time at #TCEA16 but we have a lot of work ahead of us.

Didn’t catch us at booth #224? Well that’s OK. Check out blogger Tim Holt’s interview he did at our booth with Eventzee Director of Operations, Dylan Derryberry.

Engaging Photo Challenges for Remote Teams and Online Events

Engaging Photo Challenges for Remote Teams and Online Events

Need inspiration for photo and video challenge ideas that work anywhere? These scavenger hunt ideas are built to spark creativity and boost engagement for participants around the globe. Since the challenges aren’t tied to a specific location or event, they’re ideal for virtual scavenger hunts, hybrid events, remote team building, and conferences. Each challenge can be adapted to fit your audience, timeline, and event goals.

  • #ThrowbackThursday – Thursday is National Friends Day so share a past pic of you and your friends.
  • Cheat Meal – Take a photo of the meal or food you just can’t help but eat- even if it’s really bad for you.
  • Chocolatier – Take a photo at a local candy/chocolate shop
  • Eventzee EDU – We’re currently at TCEA showing off Eventzee EDU- so creatively represent education in support.
  • Faux Screenshots – We don’t usually allow screenshots in Eventzee, but create a large cardboard cutout of a smartphone and pose behind it like you’re in a photo. Get creative!
  • High Flying – Creatively represent flying a plane. Whether you’re a pilot or a passenger- you decide.
  • I’ll Be Bach – Creatively represent classical music.
  • Mirror, Mirror – Take a photo of a unique mirror.
  • Open Parking – Find a parking lot without a single car in it.
  • Opposites Attract – Write “Eventzee” with your non-dominant hand.
  • Sculptor – Sculpt something out of a substance other can clay! No, Play Dough doesn’t count either. Get creative!
  • Slippin’ and Slidin’ – Find a slide at a playground and take the plunge.
  • Social Mediums – Creatively represent either the Facebook, Twitter or Instagram icons.
  • Topsy Turvy – Wear your clothes backwards!

TCEA 2016 Wrap Up

Eventzee in the Classroom

Scavenger hunts have always been a fun way to interact with others and support camaraderie, but we’ve moved past the limitations of pen and paper. Eventzee takes scavenger hunts to a whole new level by supporting worldwide events and new ways to interact with players. While Eventzee makes it easy to host your own scavenger hunt, it’s up to YOU to make it memorable. So if you’re considering putting on your own, here’s a few tips to get you started.

Every student learns differently, but all can make use of the fun and unique learning experience of our Eventzee education program. Digital Scavenger Hunts combine effective use of technology with higher level questioning while engaging students in fun, creative ways.

Bring the classroom into the real world with Eventzee!

  • Formative Assessment with instant feedback for teachers.
  • Engages students in making real world connections to curriculum.
  • Creates active learners.

Totally customizable, Eventzee combines creativity with active learning through scavenger hunts. Check out what people are saying about Eventzee!

Denton ISD | Event: Denton TIA “Technology In Action” Conference

Eventzee offered us another dimension of engagement with attendees at our technology conference. We were able to drive traffic to specific areas of focus at our conference, enhancing the experience for everyone involved.

We were also able to, through the use of photo scavenger hunts, gamify self-reflection about new learning by encouraging attendees to share their learning through pictures. That was a huge game-changer for some of our attendees.

– Ross Garison, Coordinator of Instructional Technology @ Denton ISD

Prosper ISD | Event: Multiple Events

Eventzee has been used in our 7th/8th grade ELAR classes as a semester review and to learn about an author’s life.  It has also been used by our middle school Photojournalism classes as they learn about the different photo composition techniques.

Our Fashion Design and Marketing teacher used it on a field trip to North Park Mall to assess student’s learning in a real world environment.  A 4th grade math teacher took his kids on a Division Hunt.  8th grade history used it to assess the understanding of the 7 principles of our Constitution.  7th grade ELAR took her kids on a mythology hunt.

Kids are engaged in higher level thinking skills as they connect their learning to real world examples.  Teachers can provide instant feedback.  It is a great formative assessment tool.  Teachers can differentiate amount student or group submissions based on level of understanding.

 – Michelle Phillips, M. Ed. Instructional Technology Specialist @ Reynolds Middle School, Prosper ISD

Region 10 | Event: 21st Annual Region 10 Technology Conference

The Eventzee Crew helped run the event since we had over 500 participants at the conference. They were an awesome crew with their fun, bright suits and amazing personalities! Our goal for this event was for our participants (Educators in the Region 10 ESC area in Texas) to have some fun mixed in with their full day of learning and for them to see how this type of technology integration could be used in the classroom.

From the feedback we received, many districts determined that Eventzee was something they could take back to their students and use in the classroom. Eventzee is a wonderful tool to use in both the classroom as well as a professional learning environment. Two thumbs up!!

Lori Aden, Ed. D. Region 10 Distance Learning Consultant

  • Party Animals – Take a photo representing one of the Party Animals. Either a flamingo, serpent or giraffe.

SURPRISE! A year ago today (January 26, 2015) we held our first public photo scavenger hunt! Things have certainly changed a lot since then, but what better way to kickoff our birthday week than to recreate our first hunt!

The clues you’ll see (a whopping 46 clues- What were we thinking?!) are the exact same clues we released a year ago today. Although back then we released new clues each day, this time we’re releasing all of the clues at once and you’ll have all month to submit the photos.

You’ll have through Tuesday February 23rd at 12 PM CST to submit clues for this hunt.

Those who participate (have at least one photo approved) will get a unique retro Eventzee badge featuring the initial logo design we were going to use. Like we said earlier, a lot has changed since we first thought up Eventzee- including the logo. Back then QR code scavenger hunts were going to be the main focus of Eventzee, thus the QR based calendar image.
