May 25, 2016 | Announcements, Eventzee Exposure
Eventzee can be used for a number events, conferences and celebrations, but it can also be used to help great causes. Steve Walker is currently hosting a city-wide scavenger hunt to raise money to aid in relief efforts for the December 26, 2015 tornado that ravaged parts of North Texas, including Rowlett. We wanted to share his story and encourage anyone in the North Texas region to join the hunt and help out in the most fun way possible.
Use the discount code “EventzeeTX” at checkout to receive $5 off entry for the event!
Purchase tickets at scavengerowlett.eventbrite.com.
What is Scavenge Rowlett?
Scavenge Rowlett is an urban scavenger hunt conducted on foot and with your smartphone. You’ll learn about our town, see some awesome landmarks and have a lot of fun solving clues and accomplishing missions that will move you up, up, up the leaderboard. Each mission will involve finding a person, place or thing, and taking some kind of photo. Many times it might be a selfie, and often a “silly-selfie” at that.
Why are you hosting this scavenger hunt?
There has never been a scavenger hunt of this type or scale in Rowlett. Our residents and people from other communities in the D/FW area need to know more about this up-and-coming town that’s about to take the Metroplex by storm with the $1 billion Crystal Lagoon named “Bayside” under construction and a major mixed-use development in the downtown area in the works as well.
What do you hope to accomplish with this event?
We want to get people out and about in the historic downtown Rowlett area, so they will learn a little history of the town and spend some time meeting other players. We want them to learn a little about using their smartphones and tablets as a way to get out and exercise rather than just playing couch-based video games. And we hope to start a semi-annual tradition of mobile-app-based scavenger hunts in Rowlett and neighboring towns like Rockwall, Garland, Mesquite and Wylie.
What is included in the ticket price?
Every player will receive a custom-designed t–shirt, a lanyard with their nametag and a Scavenge Rowlett/Rebuild Rowlett silicone wristband. There will also be a “swag-bag” full of goodies from our sponsors. Some of the swag-bag items might be important for some of the hunt’s missions, so it will be a string backpack that each player can easily carry on their backs in their quest to top the leaderboard.
Where will this money go?
All money raised by Scavenge Rowlett will go to the Rebuild Rowlett long-term recovery fund, which is administered by the Rowlett Chamber Foundation. This money is for long-term needs of residents arising from the December 26, 2015 tornado that ravaged parts of North Texas, including Rowlett. For more information visit www.rebuildrowlett.org.
What are the prizes?
First prize is $300 cash or gift card, TBD. Second prize is $200, Third prize is $100. We will have additional prizes for categories such as most creative photo, most people in a photo, or other categories to be determined prior to game day.
Where can I learn more?
Learn more at the Scavenge website www.scavengentx.com, or at the ticket purchase site scavengerowlett.eventbrite.com.
You can also find the event on Facebook.
