We’re excited to announce that WBEZ, Chicago’s NPR news station launched a virtual community engagement event using the Eventzee scavenger hunt app. Utilizing Eventzee technology, the “Curious City Scavenger Hunt: Chicago Eats Edition” guided competitors throughout Chicago while exploring new cuisines and neighborhoods.
The inaugural event was brought to life by WBEZ’s Curious City program, an ongoing news experiment that includes the public in the editorial decision-making process. Dubbed the “Chicago Eats Edition” the event itself featured 74 groups of challenges for players to complete from mid-August to mid-September. Each challenge group represented a Chicago community where players were tasked to find and interact with local restaurants to learn more about the area.
“The Curious City event is a prime example of the endless capabilities of our Eventzee application,” said Craig Holland, CEO of Freeze Tag. “The team at WBEZ took their event to new heights, and has offered us some great insight into future uses of the Eventzee platform.”
One of the key features of the new Eventzee app is the ability to group challenges together to be completed sequentially. The “Curious City Scavenger Hunt” made great use of this new feature for its month-long event. Within each group there were three challenges for each of the 74 communities throughout Chicago.
The first challenge included a rhyming clue to guess the name of the neighborhood. The second challenge asked players to take a selfie in front of a particular restaurant in the area. The third challenge required players to submit a question to WBEZ. The radio station plans on using these questions to follow up with reporting in various areas around Chicago.
WBEZ Chicago shared that the scavenger hunt was overwhelmingly successful, with 407 teams (both virtual and in-person) and more than 1,000 individuals who participated from across the Chicagoland area.

TUSTIN, CA, September 1, 2020 – Freeze Tag (OTC: FRZT), a leading creator of location-based mobile social games, launched a fundraiser project with The Salvation Army of Buffalo using the Eventzee scavenger hunt app. Utilizing Eventzee technology, “Buffalo’s Most Amazing Race” guided competitors throughout western New York in a safe, social distance adventure.
The annual event, which kicked off in late July, featured teams of two who competed from the safety of their cars in a scavenger hunt throughout Buffalo, NY. With a first-place prize of $1,000, contestants were eager to compete in the name of a good cause. Challenges within the app were based on art, history and exciting locations throughout the Buffalo area.
“We were excited to help The Salvation Army take their annual fundraiser to the next level,” said Craig Holland, CEO of Freeze Tag. “With the help of Eventzee they were able to present a state of the art experience that was interactive, safe, and fun for the whole family.”
The city-wide amazing race is one of the Buffalo Salvation Army’s biggest fundraising events of the year, but due to COVID-19 health concerns, plans had to shift. So, the committee re-invented the event into a COVID safe, socially distanced scavenger hunt event the whole family could enjoy. Eventzee was able to offer not only a safe alternative, but through the new Eventzee app players were able to compete in a number of different challenge types including photos, videos, GPS locations, and more. All funds raised from the event support programs and services of The Salvation Army in Buffalo NY, which are needed now more than ever.
“We were thrilled to discover the Eventzee app in early June,” said Laurie Krajna, Development Director of The Salvation Army WNY Region. “ It allowed us to re-invent our fundraiser, as opposed to canceling it. Due to the coronavirus, the funds raised from this event were crucial to our keeping programs and services available to those in our community in need. The post- event survey showed that our participants want us to keep this component in future races. It was fun, easy to implement, and really added to the event experience.”
The partnership with The Salvation Army is part of the Eventzee marketing program which gives companies the opportunity to engage with their clients in new and exciting ways through gaming. Companies can increase brand loyalty and offer virtual marketing promotions, incentives and competitions for a day, a week or even many months. Eventzee is also a unique fundraising tool, which allows clients to sell access to their mobile scavenger hunts with ease.

Host: Brilliant
Event: 2016 Brilliant Summer Outing
Event Breakdown and Testimonial:
Brilliant™ used the Eventzee app as part of the firm’s 2016 Summer Outing for its internal team members. 60 individuals participated in a Scavenger Hunt around the streets of downtown Chicago, Illinois. We used the app to outline various historical and popular Chicago attractions to take teams around the city in a great team-building and fun-filled event.
The participants were extremely engaged with the features of the app. Everyone loved sending in their photos and checking on the leaderboard to see who was in first place. Our end location was on the rooftop of the acclaimed Lyric Opera House, and it was exciting to see everyone race onto the rooftop in order to finish. Using the app was indeed the highlight of everyone’s day!
Without the easy-to-use functionality of the app, we would not have been able to pull off our event with such success. Everyone has been talking about our Scavenger Hunt experience—and will be for years to come.
Thank you for providing us with such a fun, easy and innovative tool for our Summer Outing.

Host: Boy Scouts of America
Event: National Venturing Event – VenturingFest
Event Breakdown and Testimonial:
The Boy Scouts of America’s Venturing program used Eventzee at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia for our first ever National Venturing Event-Venturing Fest.
We wanted a way for our participants to be able to explore the Summit and interact with other participants and Summit staff members. A scavenger hunt was a great way for our participants to get out and explore the site as they looked for clues. We thought an electronic scavenger hunt would better meet the needs of our population, since most of our participants have smartphones and they are easy to carry around and would not get lost like a piece of paper. Our event was 6 days and our scavenger hunt lasted 5 days so we could announce the winner on the last night during our closing show.
Our participants LOVED the Eventzee Scavenger Hunt. We even had adult leaders join the fun and participate, too. This was our most popular event, with over 300 participants actively playing along. Throughout the week, countless youth and adults commented to our Venturing Fest staff about how much they loved the scavenger hunt and how much fun they were having. They equally liked the ability to explore the Summit and get to meet new people along the way, since some of our clues required participants to meet other participants and Summit staff members.
The app benefited our event in so many ways. First, it encouraged our participants to get out and explore the Summit. Many of them had never been there before, so this was a great way for them to see the different program areas. Secondly, this event encouraged interaction between our participants because they were working on clues together. This also gave our participants something to do in the evening when our program areas were closed, but, most of our participants were working on their scavenger hunt during all waking hours of the event. The scavenger hunt added another level of fun and interaction to our event, which was loved by all of our participants!
